Why do French buyers use BBDBuy, and how is tax handled?

Semrush data shows 'bbdbuy' is searched far more in France than anywhere else — about 18,100 times a month there against a few hundred in the US. Agents often grow this way, through creators in one country, and it shapes the service: French-speaking support and reviews, and shipping lines tuned for France.

For a French buyer the tax picture since July 1, 2026 is the same whichever route you take. Since July 1, 2026, parcels worth under €150 owe €3 for each item category, with VAT still charged via IOSS. France's VAT rate is 20%. AliExpress collects VAT at checkout on eligible orders through IOSS, so the price you see includes it; an agent parcel either travels on a tax-included line or has VAT and duty collected on delivery by La Poste or a courier, often with a handling fee.

A popular agent in one country attracts imitators in that country's language. French site-trust checkers give very different verdicts on BBDBuy-named domains:

The safe habit is simple: type bbdbuy.com yourself and pay only there. The Trustpilot profile we cite is the one for bbdbuy.com. A site on another ending that asks you to log in is not one to trust with your password.

Reading BBDBuy's reviews

A 4.5 average with 87% five-star and 8% one-star is a good record, and responding to more than half of complaints within a day is better than most agents manage. The profile was claimed in June 2026 and BBDBuy doesn't appear to solicit reviews, so the ones there came unprompted. Trustpilot categorises it under clothing and shoe stores, which reflects what its customers buy.

Read the French reviews too if you can, since they're the majority. Complaints, when they appear, are the usual agent ones: shipping costs and waiting times. Neither is unique to BBDBuy.

BBDBuy or AliExpress for an EU order?

With the €3 charge applying per parcel and per category, one combined agent parcel of five items in two categories owes €6, while the same five items from five AliExpress stores could owe €15. BBDBuy and small wholesale orders

BBDBuy's homepage describes cross-border buying 'for wholesale and retail', and 1688 — Alibaba's domestic wholesale site — is one of its listed sources. That's relevant to one group in particular: people who run a small shop or sell to followers, and want several units of the same item. AliExpress sells single units with shipping built in; 1688 sells at factory prices with minimum order quantities, and needs an agent to buy and ship.

For a small reseller, the numbers are worth running both ways. Buy ten units on AliExpress and each arrives in its own parcel or a Choice bundle, with VAT at checkout.
